Each puppy is intentionally raised through our structured early development program designed to nurture confident, emotionally stable and highly trainable Border Collies.
From their very first days of life, our puppies are gently guided through age-appropriate neurological stimulation, social development and early training foundations. The result is a puppy who already understands human guidance and transitions smoothly into family life.
This approach allows our families to begin building connection and communication with their puppy from day one.
Our puppies are raised through the Pine Tree Hill Puppy Curriculum, a structured program designed specifically for the critical first weeks of life.
Each stage focuses on the puppy’s natural developmental windows, helping them grow into confident, adaptable companions.
Days 3–16
Early neurological stimulation and scent introduction help strengthen resilience, stress tolerance and neurological development.
Weeks 3–5
Puppies are introduced to new surfaces, sounds, objects and gentle environmental challenges that build curiosity and confidence.
Weeks 5–7
During this critical learning window, puppies begin understanding human interaction, cooperative handling and emotional regulation.
Weeks 7–8
Puppies begin learning early communication skills including recall conditioning, sit for food, crate familiarity and engagement with their handler.
At 49 days of age each puppy undergoes structured temperament assessment.
This evaluation helps identify each puppy’s natural confidence, sociability, engagement and environmental sensitivity.
These insights allow us to thoughtfully match puppies with families whose lifestyle, experience and expectations best suit each individual dog.
Our goal is lifelong placement success, not simply placement.
Families can choose to have their puppy remain with us for additional weeks to continue their early development.
During this time, puppies participate in our Head Start Training Program, which focuses on building early communication skills and calm behavioural habits.
This program takes advantage of the puppy’s natural early learning window — a period when young dogs are especially receptive to forming positive habits, routines and communication patterns.
Skills introduced during this stage may include:
• Place training
• Loose leash walking foundations
• Reliable recall reinforcement
• Impulse control games
• Calm crate independence
• Polite greeting behaviour
