At Pine Tree Hill Farms, we believe that responsible companion animal breeding carries a profound responsibility — not only to the dogs we raise, but also to the families who welcome them into their homes.
Selective breeding, when conducted ethically and thoughtfully, plays an important role in preserving the health, temperament, and functional qualities of well-established dog breeds. Our goal is not simply to produce puppies, but to contribute positively to the future of the Border Collie as a capable, intelligent, and balanced companion.
Our breeding decisions are guided by several core principles.
Breeding dogs are carefully selected based on health, temperament, and structural soundness. Health testing is used to reduce the risk of inherited conditions and to promote long-term wellbeing within the breed.
Responsible breeding aims to strengthen genetic health while maintaining the traits that allow Border Collies to thrive as both working partners and companion animals.
Temperament is one of the most important considerations in our breeding program. Border Collies are highly intelligent and sensitive dogs that require appropriate outlets for their physical and mental energy.
For this reason, we prioritise stable, thoughtful temperaments that are well suited to modern family life while still honouring the breed’s natural instincts and capabilities.
We believe that responsible breeding extends far beyond genetics. The environment in which puppies are raised plays a critical role in shaping their confidence, resilience, and ability to learn.
All puppies at Pine Tree Hill Farms are raised through the Pine Tree Hill Puppy Curriculum™, a structured early development program designed to support neurological development, socialisation, and early communication skills during the most important stages of early life.
Producing puppies is only one part of responsible breeding. Equally important is ensuring that each dog is placed in a home where it will be understood, supported, and valued throughout its life.
Puppies are thoughtfully matched to families based on temperament, lifestyle compatibility, and the needs of the individual dog. Our placement process prioritises long-term success over speed or convenience.
Ethical breeding includes a commitment that extends beyond the day a puppy leaves our care. We remain available to provide guidance and support throughout the life of every dog we produce.
If circumstances change and a family can no longer keep their dog, we require that the dog be returned to us so that we can ensure their continued safety and wellbeing. Please refer to the "Must Return Policy"
At Pine Tree Hill Farms, selective breeding is approached with care, humility, and long-term responsibility.
Our aim is to raise well-balanced Border Collies who are not only healthy and capable, but who are also able to form strong, meaningful relationships with the people who share their lives.
Through thoughtful breeding, structured early development, and careful placement, we strive to give every puppy the best possible beginning.
